Senior Reporter

This is your chance to be part of dynamic, family newspaper. We have an immediate opportunity for an accurate and hard-working senior reporter at one of Oregon’s best small daily newspapers based in scenic and historic Pendleton. This is a key reporting assignment covering two of the newsroom’s bigger beats — Umatilla County government and public safety. We value spot news hustle but also prize deeper enterprise pieces. You won’t just cover crime. You’ll delve into politics, personalities, budget issues, cycles of trauma and violence, but also stories of success and achievement. You will collaborate with almost every other beat reporter at the newspaper. Most importantly, you’ll highlight the powerful human stories at the center of every public safety issue. The successful candidate will build sources and mine the community and social media for leads.

The successful candidate should be fluent in filing public records requests, social media, breaking news and multimedia. You must have experience covering governments and a nose to ferret out the key issues and what’s truly important for the reader.

You’ll work closely with an energetic newsroom that is accustomed to success. The East Oregonian has been named the top newspaper in its class eight of the last nine years in the Oregon Newspaper Publishers Association’s annual competition.

Pendleton is located near the scenic Blue Mountains and abundant outdoor recreation. It is also a farming and ranching center and home to the famous Pendleton Round-Up rodeo.
